• Mix & Match Tournament

There was a good gathering in St Wilfrid's Hall this week as we welcomed members of the Witterings Camera Club for our traditional pre-Christmas Mix & Match tournament.

The evening followed the usual format, whereby the two clubs took it in turn to display a digital image with the onus on the opposing club to match the first image as closely as possible with one of its own. It then fell to our judge for the evening, John Lynch from Littlehampton, to decide whether the second image was a good match, a partial match or no match at all.

Each club began with a cache of fifty images, of which forty-four were used over the course of the evening. As usual with this friendly annual event, there was a great deal of banter and "helpful, unbiased advice" for the judge !

During the interval, we were treated to a tasty spread of refreshments, efficiently organised by Louise Satturley, Anne Johnson and Joan Taylor. This also gave an opportunity to chat, and catch up on camera club news with our Witterings friends as well as purchasing tickets for the evening's raffle, organised by Bob Hoare.

With a possible two marks available in each round, (two for a good match or a no-match, and one for a near match), the scores soon crept up. Many of the images were unusual, though very imaginative, in order to wrong-foot the opposing side. However, each club also brought a good variety of images to choose from in order to convince the judge that the first picture had been matched. With each picture only being used once, this became increasingly challenging as the evening wore on.

By the end, members from both clubs had enjoyed a thoroughly entertaining evening, but with the final scores standing at 41 to Witterings and 32 to Selsey, the honours therefore went to our visitors on this occasion.

The evening concluded with the two club chairmen thanking the judge, the catering team and all assembled for another very successful inter-club event.
